This page is a list of glitches currently known in Metal Gear Solid 2:

The following is a list of all known (by the community) glitches in the game that do not necessarily have a usecase in the speedrun.

The following are a list of know out of bounds glitches that involve equipping a camera/scope prior to entering the animation for hanging onto a railing or ladder:

It was first found by KikujiroChan. Door Glitches allows for Raiden to hit the load trigger behind a locked door. In most cases, this leads to a softlock as the game can't open the door on the other side after the load transition. Currently, this is only useful for Tengu 1 (and Bomb Disposal 05 in VR Missions). Refer to Tengu 1 Skip for more information on this. Here are the steps on how to perform this:

  1. Press against a locked door (with a load trigger behind it).
  2. Go into First Person View and let go of door.
  3. Perform a punch-punch-kick combo while still in FPV.
  4. When Raiden begins kicking, let go of FPV.

Door Glitch can also be done with the HF. Blade

  • Strut E Parcel Room, 1F found by KikujiroChan
  • Raiden Bomb Disposal 05 found by Stealth_Edge

Prozac Skip

An alternative Door glitch that can be performed with either Snake or Raiden. Based on extending your hitbox
after throwing an object like a magazine or grenade, you can turn into a closed door to touch the load zone behind it.
This trick finds particular use in any% runs where we play in the Tanker chapter, after having beaten Olga and going into
the engine room to move on. With this trick we can enter the engine room from the left door and skip having to walk through
the entire engine room.

It was first found by KikujiroChan. This glitch is exclusive to Sons of Liberty and was patched out of Substance and the HD Edition. It allows for Raiden to fall out of bounds. Refer to Elevator Glitch for more information on this. Here are the steps on how to perform this:

  1. Go next to the elevator button from the outside.
  2. Crouch and press the elevator button.
  • Shell 1 Core, 1F
  • Shell 1 Core, B1
  • Shell 1 Core, B2 Computer Room
  • Shell 2 Core, 1F

Originally discovered by magnum66, here are the steps on how to perform it:

  1. Go near an area that causes the phone to ring, such as fire or the bugs in Shell 2 Core B1 with Emma.
  2. Equip the phone and hold select to bring up the codec.
  3. Tap select to leave the codec and then hold select again to bring it back up.

Note: On the PC port of Substance, this can cause the game to crash. To avoid this, spam the pause button in between entering and exit the final set of codecs.

Wall Clip via Weapon Shuffle

This variant was first found by the MGS2 VR runner 131913055. It applies to many areas in the game where you alternate between two weapons (for Raiden, it needs to be two throw-able weapons like grenades, magazines, etc.) and move in the opposite direction of a vent.

  • Strut E Parcel Room, 1F (Conveyor Belt)

Upclip via D.Mic/Coolant Rise

This variant was found by MarlonH8, as an extension of what made the Prez Parkour skip possible. It allows for wall and floor clips on every single vent or crawlspace in the game. Set your Coolant/D.Mic as your Quick Equip, then crawl into a vent or below an object and start crawling towards its exit. Before fully exiting it, keep mashing the R2 and X Buttons to trigger an Upclip. You need perfectly timed inputs and you need to hit a very precise “trigger zone”. As this zone can easily be missed by moving past it, slower exits provide a better chance of successfully clipping up. You can turn left/right by just below 90° before fully exiting a vent/crawlspace to crawl out of it even more slowly. Putting Turbo/Auto-fire on R2 & X helps tremendously, but isn't strictly necessary.
