All Dog Tags
This category is the closest to a 100% run as you can get in Metal Gear Solid 2. After you have completed your playthrough, make a save and check your Dog Tags in the DOG TAG VIEWER in SPECIAL.
There are two main deviations in routing for All Dog Tags. Sons of Liberty (specifically US) has less tags overall and some guards are not “tough” in Sons of Liberty. “Tough” guards require a USP/Socom shot above their head to shake down.

General Information:
- A guard can carry only one dog tag, but not every guard has one.
- Some dog tags are obtained from boss fights or other characters such as Olga, Fatman (Peter Stillman's dog tag) and Solid Snake (named differently per difficulty).
- Some guards will not give up their dog tags until the feel seriously threatened. To do this, fire either next to or at them with a lethal weapon such as the USP, Socom, M4, AK-74u, or PSG1. Alternatively, just holding out weapons like Stinger, Nikita, or RGB6 is enough to get them to relinquish their dog tags immediately.
- Some dog tags are one-time global events, such as the yawning guards on the north-east section of Engine Room. If you take a continue or restart the room for these guards, you will be unable to complete the run.
- After a dog tag has been obtained, it will carry over through a continue unlike other items and weapons.
- On Sons of Liberty and Substance, equip the scope / camera / digital camera and hold triangle to see if you've already obtained a guard's dog tag.
